14.5.2009: Underground containers delivery

Efforts of the project WASTE NO WASTE aimed at raising awareness of individual responsibility of citizens in handling waste received a specific dimension recently. Last week in Velika Gorica 30 modern underground containers arrived regarding separate waste collection, purchased through the project. Containers will be installed at 10 green islands on the area of the City, while each island will be equipped with a container for disposal of PET, glass and paper. Citizens of Velika Gorica will benefit by using this high technology communal infrastructure through many advantages. For example, using the underground instead of overhead space for waste collection significantly reduces unpleasant odours typical for landfill, because the waste is exposed only to the lower, ground temperatures. A special mechanism on the cover lid of each container precludes unauthorized access to container content and reduces possibility for devastation. On the other hand, containers are very adaptable for any kind of environment. Project partners expect the installation till the end of June.
